HAM Mini Flight Firmware

Embedded Software Developer2025–PresentResume-backed HAM Mini flight-software work within the Icarus Sounding Rocket Program.

STM32 flight software integrating sensing, telemetry, data acquisition, logging, and flight-state logic on compact custom avionics.

Problem

A compact, low-cost flight computer needed to acquire and preserve useful vehicle data while operating through transonic flight conditions.

Outcome

Flight-validated firmware that recorded vehicle and environmental measurements through Mach 1 and approximately 10,000 ft.

01 · Challenge

The engineering problem

A compact, low-cost flight computer needed to acquire and preserve useful vehicle data while operating through transonic flight conditions.

02 · Contribution

My contribution

  • Develop STM32 firmware for sensor acquisition, telemetry, data logging, and autonomous flight functions.
  • Integrate onboard measurements across the compact HAM Mini avionics platform.
  • Process recovered flight data to evaluate vehicle motion and system performance.

03 · Work / process

How the system took shape

  1. Develop and test the acquisition and flight-state path on physical avionics hardware.
  2. Integrate the completed board with the vehicle and mission telemetry workflow.
  3. Recover and analyze recorded measurements after flight.

04 · Results / evidence

Results and evidence

  • Validated the flight-software path through Mach 1 and approximately 10,000 ft.
  • Recorded vehicle and environmental measurements for post-flight analysis.
